Peter Jones I am just awestruck. This is the definition of jazz. Uncompromising artwork. I am transported out of this world, taken into a dance of joy. Embraced and enfolded in warmth. Spinning around in space... Each performer has their own place but acts with a single movement within the whole - and, of course, each track is a favourite.

Camilo Boudreaux a beautiful album from start to finish. Favorite track: Fall.

This album is legendary for one reason: it went through several interferences due to various conflicts of interest within the jazz scene and many attempts of obstruction. It took ten years to release it and it testifies the collaboration between three musicians who spontaneously started playing together during a master program at Siena Jazz University (Italy) they were attending in 2008. Whoever had the opportunity to see them live (either at Ferrara JazzClub, Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome or Panic Jazz Club in Marostica) still remembers what some consider a short yet thrilling highlight of musical integrity and intensity. Not so long after the recording of this project the three members took off on their own paths: Alessandro Lanzoni kept proving his musical genius and talent, Gabriele Evangelista became a major figure among bass players in Europe, while Tommaso Cappellato continued his musical explorations thanks to his numerous international collaborations, both as a drummer and producer. The repertoire includes two standards by Wayne Shorter, a tune from saxophone player Michael Blake’s catalog, two original compositions by Cappellato, one by Evangelista plus two spontaneous collective improvisations. Nothing more than eight visceral tracks to represent Heavy A***s Trio, a band that actually never existed or - better say - it existed almost exclusively in order to record this album that will surely leave its trace in the ears and hearts of many.

HAT (aka Heavy A***s Trio) are pianist Alessandro Lanzoni, double bassist Gabriele Evangelista and drummer Tommaso Cappellato, three of the most prominent Italian jazz musicians of the last generation.
